In the baloney concerning mob and Stan, there were several facts mentioned which I will list below.
1) James lives in Maryland and runs his product line from Virginia
2) Stan lives in Virginia and works in Maryland.
3) Stan hires James to paint his kin - there is a contract and a down requital was made.
4) James committed to cause the job as curtly as he could.
5) It has been 3 months since the agreement and work mum has not begun.
6) Stan had contacted James and James continues with I will bulge out as soon as I can.
Concerning the effective jurisdiction for this matter, whether it would be Virginia, Maryland, or Federal zone Court, I hope it would be in Virginia. I do not think the fact that Stan works in Maryland is applicable to the matter. The fact that James lives in Maryland and Stan lives in Virginia could potentially mean that jurisdiction would be in Federal District Court, but it is very doubtful that Diversity of Citizenship (Cheeseman 27) would be applicable in this matter, as the dollar amount to paint a house, would not likely exceed the $75,000 amount necessary for it to apply.
James telephone line is in Virginia and Stan lives in Virginia, so the matter would be for the Virginia courts.



Depending on the amount of the down payment, the court would be either the dinky claims court if the amount was less than $5,000 or the general jurisdiction trial court if the amount exceeded $5000 (Cheeseman 18).
If approached for advice by Stan I believe I would first refer that he contact James and express his concerns and frustration over the time issue. I would suggest that they try to come to some form of resolution and get a definite, agreeable time frame for the work to start and an estimated time frame for the completion of the job. The fact that there is a contract, but that no time frame is mentioned in the story suggests to me that there was nothing specific in the contract.
